Measurement for Improvement – Najmin Begum, Quality Improvement and Governance Programme Administrator

Share

“I found the Understanding and Reducing session very useful as it demonstrated how data can be presented using SPC charts and how to manipulate data.”

Najmin Begum is a Quality Improvement and Governance Programme Administrator at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, with over 12 years’ experience in NHS governance administration.

Her current role involves:

  • Completing her organisation’s Quality and Performance Dashboards
  • Providing support for quarterly and annual reports
  • Providing support for the Clinical Audit Database
  • Producing statistical reports, including analysis of themes and trends

Najmin is currently working on the production of the Annual Quality Accounts for her organisation. This is a 90 page document detailing the trust’s key achievements in the past year and the Trust’s aims for the year ahead. Data is presented in various graphical formats including Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts.

Najmin found the Understanding Variation workshop very useful as it demonstrated how to manipulate data and how to present the information using SPC charts. Najmin’s key learning from the session was how to produce an SPC chart, how to interpret what it means, and how it can benefit her organisation. Najmin now wants to increase her use of SPC charts when producing statistical reports.

Najmin’s longer term plan is to apply SPC charts to her organisation’s performance dashboards and to any other statistical reports she produces.

Najmin attended the Improvement Academy Understanding and Reducing Variation in Healthcare workshop, funded through the Yorkshire and Humber AHSN on 28th January 2019.
