Dr Anna Winfield is a Clinical Leader in Quality Improvement for the Improvement Academy and a specialty Doctor in Elderly Medicine and Patient Safety Manager at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. Over recent years Anna has worked on many successful frontline QI projects including reducing avoidable deterioration, falls and pressure ulcers. Anna supports the Improvement Academy to deliver Quality Improvement training and supports the spread of safety huddles across Yorkshire.

During her postgraduate training she completed a fellowship in Leadership and Quality improvement, which is when she developed her passion for leading frontline teams in Quality Improvement and improving patient safety. Anna worked alongside colleagues on the Health Foundation Scaling up Improvement Grant: ‘Huddle Up for Safer Healthcare’, working with over 150 frontline teams to scale up huddles across the region. As part of the huddles work, Anna and the team in collaboration with the Improvement Academy won the HSJ Value Awards 2018 Patient Safety category for Enhancing value through increasing patient safety and reducing litigation. Anna and her colleague were also runners up in the Sir Peter Carr Award 2017– Using Data for Improvement: ward to board.
