“After attending the course, I feel more confident in having conversations with others around this topic and feel that I can positively contribute when developing a plan of action.”

Jane Hudson
is a Team Administrator for the Improvement Academy looking after a number of administrative duties. Jane is also a Project Coordinator supporting a number of work streams, and currently learning new skills to increase the level of support she can offer including delivering culture survey feedback to teams.

Jane is currently involved in the following projects:

  • Patient Safety Collaborative work Stream including PReCePT and Emergency Laparotomy
  • Achieving Behaviour Change workshops
  • Bronze level Quality Improvement and Human Factors training

Jane’s role has developed to include support of Achieving Behaviour Change project work. Although Jane did already have an awareness of ABC, she hadn’t attended the course and wanted to understand how colleagues were using ABC in their work.

Jane’s key learning points from the course were:

  • How to identify a target or area for behaviour change
  • How to use information collected to come up with a meaningful plan of action
  • How to work with a team successfully to deliver objectives

After attending the course, Jane feels that she can support the Achieving Behaviour Change work more successfully. She is now more confident in having conversations with others and offering them support from an administrative perspective. When Jane was involved in initial meetings with new organisations using the ABC toolkit, she felt that she didn’t have enough knowledge to take part in the discussions but now she can positively contribute in developing a plan of action.

Another part of Jane’s role and progression is to be able to provide culture survey feedback to hospital teams. Jane hopes to utilise the knowledge she gained from attending the ABC course, to work towards delivering feedback directly to teams and make the discussions meaningful and a working discussion instead of a tell/listen session.

Jane attended the Improvement Academy Achieving Behaviour Change workshop, funded through the Yorkshire and Humber AHSN on 9th November 2018.
