In A Nutshell:

You will work through the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Model for Improvement. You will work together and apply what you are learning to an example ED problem. There will be time for reflection and planning for your own QIP.

Aims:

  • To help you identify problems suitable for a Quality Improvement Project (QIP) (and your HST QIAT section1 &2).
  • To equip you with the skills and knowledge required to participate in QI work now and in the future.
  • To begin to put into practice some of the skills you will need to lead a QIP by ST6.

Course overview:

  • You will work through the Institute for Healthcare Improvement’s Model for Improvement.

  • There will be time for reflection and planning for your own QIP.

Course requirements:

Delegates must have:

  • At least a six-month timescale to run a QIP.
  • An initial idea for a QIP (agreed with your supervisor).
  • Opportunity/plan to hand over a project (where required).

Course structure:

  • A 1 day face-to-face workshop.
  • 1 hour pre-agreed mentorship from a member of the Improvement Academy QI support team with opportunity to purchase more support if required.

NOTE: participants are expected to have completed the Improvements Academy Bronze QI e-learning

Maureen McGeorge

Maureen has extensive experience of quality improvement training, improving service quality and patients’ experience. In 2011, she qualified as an Improvement Advisor with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement.

Mel Johnson

Mel leads the Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Collaborative and brings an applied focus on Human Factors and behaviour change to ‘learning by doing’ QI training.

Dr Sally-Anne Wilson

Sally-Anne provides leadership across a number of patient safety projects and is part of our Quality Improvement facilitation team. She is a consultant in Emergency Medicine and chairs the Regional Board of the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) and the RCEM Safer Care Committee.
