In A Nutshell:

This course offers attendees a practical application of PSIRF principles when conducting patient safety investigations using a case study based in acute settings.

It combines knowledge and skills from other Improvement Academy training programmes, such as Human Factors, Quality Improvement, and Qualitative Analysis.

Aims

This one-day course will enable you to feel more confident in your role as an investigator/improver through:

Understanding:

  • the systems thinking that underpins an effective learning response
  • how PSIRF can help support a Just and Learning Culture

Learning:

  • tools for effective engagement that will support your investigations
  • some helpful techniques for analysis of the information available
  • translating the learning gained to support effective improvement

This training is designed to complement, not meet national training requirements. It is experiential – you will practice using some of the techniques.

It uses the Improvement Academy’s Human Factors, Just Culture, Staff Support, Patient Engagement, Qualitative Analysis, and Quality Improvement expertise.

The event will be delivered by:

Maureen McGeorge
Quality Improvement Training Lead, Improvement Academy
Maureen joined the Improvement Academy in 2014 and has extensive experience of quality improvement training, improving service quality and patients’ experience. In 2011, she qualified as an Improvement Advisor with the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. As well as working with the IA, Maureen delivers QI training and supports on behalf of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ and the Royal College of Surgeons

Dr Shireen Hickey
Obstetrics and Gynaecology doctor

Shireen is an Obstetrics and Gynaecology doctor in the West Yorkshire Region and an Improvement Fellow at the Improvement Academy. She has a post graduate certificate in Psychology in the Workplace and a passion for Listening to Women and Supporting Staff ;with an over-arching goal to reduce inequalities and improve the culture within Maternity.
