The Improvement Academy is setting up a 'Healthcare Analyst Faculty' to enable analysts working in healthcare to come together periodically to showcase best-practice in the region and to learn new skills and approaches. The creation of a network of analysts who are willing to share ideas and help people in similar situations will support assessing the impact of improvement projects in the region.

The topics and priorities will be dictated by the members of the faculty, and initial suggestions include:

  • Advanced Statistical Process Control techniques, such as CUSUM plots and Days Between Event charts
  • Data visualisation tools and techniques
  • Options for producing maps, both static and interactive
  • When and how to use statistical tests
  • Accessing available NHS datasets
  • Introduction to Computer Simulation Modelling
  • Sankey flow diagrams
  • Survey analysis visualisations
  • Dashboard design principles

When will the Healthcare Analyst Faculty meet?

We will setup quarterly face-to-face workshops to enable this, with the option of interim WebEx’s to demonstrate new ideas. The first meeting will be held in on Monday 27th February 2017 in Leeds, with subsequent meetings to be held around the region.

Who is eligible to join?

The faculty is open to all interested people, but is likely to be particularly suited to analysts and roles involved with assessing the impact of improvement work in healthcare.

Who do I contact to find out more?

The workshops will be run by Michael Rooney (Senior Improvement Analyst, Improvement Academy), Prof. Mohammed Mohammed (Academic Advisor, Improvement Academy and Professor of Healthcare, Quality & Effectiveness, University of Bradford) and Garry Fothergill (Lead Manager - Analytics for Improvement, Sheffield Teaching Hospitals). Participants will have the option to demonstrate their own work to enable other analysts to see different approaches.
